SXSW Announces Big Changes for 2027

South by Southwest answered a few key questions about the 2027 version of the festival on Tuesday.

  • Where will movies be held without the Paramount Theatre? Paramount Theatre will still be undergoing a revamp during SXSW, which means the festival’s biggest movie premieres needed somewhere to go. Festival officials announced that red carpets and movie premieres will primarily be held at ACL Live at the Moody Theater.
  • Isn’t the convention center still going to be under construction? Yes! Construction on the convention center is expected to last until 2029. SXSW will do what it did this year and instead of having a central hub, a number of hubs will be placed throughout downtown.
  • Is SXSW going to do anything special for Austinites? SXSW has gotten so big that it’s hard to remember it used to be a little, local festival. For the first time, the festival is giving Austinites access to The 512 Club if they use an Austin zip code when purchasing a badge. The club includes better badge rates and a downtown, locals-only lounge.
  • Are music wristbands going to be available again? Yes! Music wristbands are on sale now and cost $149.

Texas Is Now No. 1 for New Data Centers

Texas has double the amount of data centers under construction compared to Virginia, making the state the first in the country for data center growth. COTALAND Sets Opening Date

The amusement park at Circuit of the Americas will open Sept. 26, the venue announced. Tickets to visit the park, called COTALAND, on opening day start at $99. [Circuit of the Americas]

ACL Fest’s Schedule Is Out

Hour-by-hour schedules for this year’s Austin City Limits Musical Festival are out. Charli XCX is performing Friday night, Rüfüs Du Sol takes the Saturday night slot, and Twenty One Pilots will close out the festival on Sunday. [Austin City Limits Music Festival]

UT Is Getting New Art

A 3,600-square-foot sculpture will open in April near the University of Texas at Austin’s Engineering Discovery building and it is going to look really cool. The artist is Maya Lin, the designer behind the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. [KUT]
