| Dangerous Heat Wave To Bring Triple-Digit Temps to Austin This Week | If you read that headline and thought, “OK? I live in Texas. What else is new?” I understand! Hot days are a constant here, but this week’s weather conditions are part of a serious heat wave moving across the country’s southern states. | - It’s going to be really hot. Temperatures are expected to be between 104 and 105 degrees during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday, the National Weather Service said. Coupled with heat indices, or the “feels-like” temperature, of 108 degrees, it’s going to be imperative that you take precautions when spending time outside. [National Weather Service]
- A heat advisory is in effect. The advisory is in effect through Wednesday at 7 p.m. as heat-related illnesses will be more likely during that time. Forecasters are reminding Austinites to drink lots of water, wear loose clothing, and take lots of breaks from the sun if you have to be outside. [National Weather Service]
- Need a place to cool off? All Austin park facilities and libraries are open as cooling centers during normal business hours. You can also visit Travis County community centers to cool off, fill up your water bottle, and use the restroom. [ECHO]
- Help a dog. The Austin Animal Center is asking for emergency fosters and adopters after repairing air conditioning in two of its kennels that house medium and large dogs. The repairs are a temporary fix. [Austin Animal Services]
