‘Lonesome Dove’ Is Headed to Netflix

Larry McMurtry’s sprawling, 843-page book “Lonesome Dove” is being turned into a series at Netflix, the streaming giant announced this week.

• A quick recap. “Lonesome Dove” follows retired Texas Rangers Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call as they travel from the Rio Grande to Montana with a herd of stolen cattle. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1986, a year after it was released. The book is considered one of the greatest Westerns ever written. [The New York Times]
• Who’s doing the show? The show is being produced by actress Zoe Kazan and writer and producer Jeb Stuart. The pair are co-showrunners of the upcoming Netflix series “East of Eden”, which is based on John Steinbeck’s novel of the same name. Cisco’s Employees Detained by ICE

Two Cisco’s Restaurant Bakery and Bar employees were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents before their shifts earlier this week after a traffic stop. Texas Department of Public Safety officials called ICE for help during the stop. [Austin American-Statesman]

Red River Cultural District Wants the City’s Help

Red River Cultural District officials are calling on city leaders to protect the entertainment area with zoning rules and preservation measures after a building sale and a business closure were announced this month. The district is asking supporters to sign a letter to increase awareness. [KUT]

Austin Convention Center Floor Plans Released

Interior plans for the new Austin Convention Center have been released, detailing what it will look like when it opens in 2029. The third floor, for example, will have a flex space for keynotes and a 4,000 square foot balcony. [Austin Business Journal]
