Michelin Star Awards Return to Texas Today

Foodies to the front, please. Michelin, the tire company that reviews dining all over the world, is announcing its 2026 Texas awards this morning through a press release.

  • This is Michelin’s third year in Texas. The city of Austin used hotel occupancy taxes to pay the Michelin Guide $90,000 a year for three years to be included in the guide. The first Texas awards came out in 2024. Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, and San Antonio are also part of the guide. [City Cast Austin]
  • Stars aren’t the only prize. While a Michelin star is the most highly coveted award, the company also hands out prizes for sustainability and restaurants that are the best bang for your buck. Austin restaurants who received no such awards have been highlighted in the Texas guide, too. [City Cast Austin]
  • Austin was most-awarded in 2024. Seven restaurants in the Austin area received a Michelin star in 2024, the most stars of any city. A total of 15 restaurants were included in the first guide. Just three new stars were awarded in 2025 and did not include any Austin restaurants. [City Cast Austin, Michelin]
  • A Michelin star doesn’t make a restaurant infallible. Earlier this year, one of the first Austin restaurants to earn a Michelin star closed. Olamie said while it saw some boost from the star initially, it eventually wore off. [KUT]
  • No big party is scheduled this year. When the awards were announced in 2024 and 2025, Michelin hosted an in-person ceremony. Awards will be announced only through a press release this year. [The Houston Chronicle]

Why Zilker Park Stinks

If you were at Weekend 1 of Austin City Limits Music Festival, you may have noticed that the mud smelled a little fishy and a little manure-y. The city says the smell comes from a combination of wet grass, foot traffic, and decomposition. [Austin American-Statesman]
